Monday, September 9, 2013 - 7:35pm

a Trooper from Troop E was in a high speed pursuit after trying to stop two separate motorcycles for speeding. These operator’s actions endangered themselves, State Troopers, other responding law enforcement, and the public.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., a Louisiana State Trooper was on patrol in Vernon Parish, when he observed two motorcycles speeding eastbound on LA Hwy 8. The Trooper then activated his radar which indicated a speed of 62 mph. This area of LA Hwy 8 is a 45 mph zone. The Trooper then attempted to stop the motorcycles, but both immediately accelerated to 120 mph. After pursuing the motorcycles for several miles, one of them turned onto LA Hwy 184 and the other continued east on LA Hwy 8.

Prior to turning onto LA Hwy 184, the Trooper’s radar indicated a speed of 142 mph in a 65 mph zone on one of the motorcycles (2013 Yamaha). The Trooper pursued the eastbound motorcycle (2012 Yamaha), which eventually turned west on LA Hwy 28 West, reaching a confirmed speed of 159 mph in a 65 mph zone.

The Trooper realized these motorcycles were headed for Fort Polk. He notified Fort Polk, which in turned closed their entrance gates. The 2012 Yamaha turned onto LA Hwy 469 and stopped at the gates of Fort Polk, where he was arrested by the pursuing Trooper.

During the pursuit, the pursuing Trooper and Troop E were in contact with other local law enforcement agencies. The 2013 Yamaha was stopped by the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office on LA Hwy 184, at a different set of entrance gates to Fort Polk, where he was arrested by another Trooper and later positively identified by the pursuing Trooper.

The driver of the 2012 Yamaha motorcycle was identified as Nathaniel Sanders of Fort Polk, LA. The driver of the 2013 Yamaha motorcycle was identified as Carlton Jamison  of Honolulu, HI, both currently stationed at Fort Polk. Sanders and Jamison are both military soldiers at Fort Polk.

Sanders was charged with flight from an officer, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, no driver’s license on person, and speeding (159/65). Jamison was charged with flight from an officer, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and speeding (142/65). Both were booked into the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office.
