SHREVEPORT, La (KMSS) — Two suspected burglars were arrested Wednesday afternoon with the help of a four legged friend.
Shortly before 1:00 p.m., officers were called to a burglary in progress on the 5700 block of Bienville Avenue. When authorities arrived, witnesses told them they they saw two men taking items from inside a home and loading it into a car.
While at the scene, a car matching the suspected vehicle was spotted near the intersection of Prentiss Avenue at Conmar Street. Officers tried to speak with the passengers in the vehicle, but they jumped out and ran in opposite directions. The suspects were able to dodge arrest for a short time, until a K-9 cop made it to the scene.
K-9 Mico and his handler were able to catch Victor Johnson, 24, of Shreveport, hiding inside a house on the 3000 block of Conmar Street. Johnson was quickly taken into custody.
With the second suspect at large, officers searched the area and eventually found him with the help of Mico. The suspect was hiding in a storage shed behind a house in the 2900 block of Valley Ridge Road.
Officers took into custody, Roderick Vinson, 26, who was found hiding inside the storage shed. Both Johnson and Vinson were treated for minor injuries.
Authorities were able to recover items stolen inside the abandoned car.
During their investigation, detectives learned Johnson had already pawned a television about half-an-hour earlier that was allegedly taken during the burglary.
Johnson and Vinson were booked into the Shreveport City Jail. The duo is charged with burglary of an inhabited dwelling, theft and trespassing.
