Haughton man admits to torching his own home
Haughton, LA — The Bossier Sheriff’s Office arrested a Haughton man Thursday afternoon after he allegedly set his house on fire.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the Phillip D. Smith's home in 130 block of Camp Zion Road after receiving reports of the blaze. A neighbor was able to help the homeowner, Smith put out the fire, but not before the kitchen and master bathroom were damaged.
Officials determined the fire had been intentionaly set and began an investigation. During an interview with Smith, he admitted to setting the fire intentionally. The 38-year-old was arrested and charged with aggravated arson.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office estimates about $20,000 in fire and smoke damage was done to the home. No one else has been charged in this case.
