Homeless man arrested on drug charges while playing video poker

Houma police have arrested a homeless man on multiple charges after he punched an officer while attempting to evade a drug-related arrest.

On April 9, authorities were called to a truck stop in the 10600 block of East Main Street due to possible narcotics activity. Officers spoke to the security guard on duty, who told them details of a possible illegal drug transaction.

Officers saw the suspect, Brian J. Guillote, 36, sitting at a video poker machine.

When asked to remove his hands from his pockets, Guillote refused to and threatened officers, stating he had a razor blade on his person.

Officers attempted to pat down the Guillote, who then tried to flee, punching an officer in the face. Guillote was subdued after officers wrestled him down and tazed him.

The suspect was found to have a small bag of suspected methamphetamine, a small pack of suspected marijuana, and a small bag of suspected clonazepam.

Guillote was charged with Resisting an Officer by Flight, Resisting an Officer by Violence, Battery of a Police Officer, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Clonazepam. Guillote also had an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear on a Domestic Abuse Battery - Second Offense.

No officers were harmed in the incident.
