Homeless Shreveport man confesses to causing chemical reaction in Houma Walmart

Tuesday, December 4, 2012 - 7:28pm

Tips from the public lead to the arrest a man who set off a chemical reaction and caused the evacuation of a Wal-Mart in Houma.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the suspect was identified by concerned citizens as Chad Allen Anderson, 37.

Anderson was located this morning in the parking lot of a shopping center located on Martin Luther King Blvd. He told deputies that he relocated to Houma from Shreveport and was currently homeless. He said he’s been living out of his Dodge truck for the past several months.

Authorities questioned Anderson and he subsequently confessed to intentionally mixing the toxic chemicals in the west Houma Wal-Mart. The chemicals caused a thick cloud of smoke to fill the business, but he claimed that was an accident.

Anderson was booked with one count of Terrorism and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property.
