Homer, LA (KMSS) — In an unanimous vote Monday, Homer's City Council voted to disband their police department starting March 1. Officers started receiving certified letters Wednesday, letting them know that as of March 1, their services would no longer be needed.
Homer will keep their elected Police Chief, Russell Mills, on staff as well as two other officers. The two officers will be let go at the end of August when the Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office takes over in the area. \
The town of Homer has a population of 3,174 as of the 2011 census. Along with Mills, there are 10 full time police officers and one secretary working in the department.
