I Love the Ark-La-Tex: Herby K's

Since 1936, Herby K's at 1833 Pierre Avenue in Shreveport, has been a second home for many of its customers. When I first moved here, people from all over kept telling me I had to go there. For some reason it took a while for me to get over there, but once I did, my life was changed.

Long time customers told me they love the fact that not much has changed since the first time they came here. For some, Herby K's is the first stop when they come back to Shreveport, always ordering the same thing.

Owner Angela Busi Doe can't imagine the look of disappointment on their faces if they came back and their favorite wasn't on the menu anymore. When she was in college, Herby K's was her first stop off of the plane, so she understands their love of the restaurant.

But Herby K's isn't just a stop for old-timers, new-comers are welcome as well. I am proud to say that I was there when new Shreveportian Michael Russell took his first bite of their famous Shrimp Buster. Like most, it was love at first bite.

After I watched Russell devour his lunch, my tummy started growling. While some know what they want, and always get the same thing, I have commitment issues. I can never decide what I want.... so I have it all.

I had a Shrimp Buster, chicken and sausage gumbo, crawfish etoufee, and marinated crab claws- and of course, no meal at Herby K's would be complete with out their famous sweet tea. Seriously, I don't know what they put in there, but I'm addicted.

Although, that's not really saying much, because I'm addicted to pretty much everything at Herby K's; from the atmosphere, to the staff, to the building, and of course the food.
