Bossier City, La (KMSS) — The Super Derby at Louisiana Downs is the one time of year all eyes in the racing circuit are focused on the Bossier City casino and its ponies.
Now many think ponies are the only reason to visit Louisiana Downs during the Super Derby, but I disagree. The activities surrounding the Derby are just as fabulous as the Derby itself. From wiener dog racing, to a donut eating contest, and how could I forget the fabulous hats, I love it all.
Now I know, my previous attempt at an eating contest didn't go well during Mudbug Madness, but I was sure that I could handle donuts. It was work at times, but I managed to eat 7 donuts in 5 minutes, beating all of the other women in the contest and quite a few men.
7 donuts were more than enough for me, I was ready to turn my attention to fabulous fascinators. Who better to go to for hat advice than Jane Ryder, hat maker for the Ark-La-Tex? This wasn't going to be an easy interview for Ryder; I had tough questions for her, like which hat would be best for me.
She helped me out, and with a full tummy and a fabulous fascinator, I was ready for the Derby itself.
And that's just another reason I love the Ark-La-Tex.
