Lake boating safety reminders

This weekend thousands across the country will hit the lake leading up to the Labor Day holiday. Here at home officials with SPD Lake Patrol are reminding people about the importance of boat safety.

Below is a list officials have released to remind boaters about the importance of lake safety.

-Wear a life jacket. Children under 16 are required by law to wear a life jacket while onboard a moving vessel, but it’s recommended for everyone to wear a life jacket.

- Watch you boating speed in surrounding areas.

- Don’t overload a boat with people or equipment.

- Use navigation lights at all times when on the water at night. Check lights before it gets dark.
