At least one killed in 18-wheeler head-on collision

Release from Caddo Sheriff's Office:

Caddo Sheriff’s Deputies are on the scene of a fatal accident that occurred this morning on Hwy. 79 near the Relay Station.

Several 18 wheelers belonging to Frac Tech were traveling in a convoy northbound on Hwy. 79 when one of the drivers was following too closely and hit another from behind, knocking it into the southbound lane, where it was struck by a southbound 18 wheeler. The southbound 18 wheeler was unloaded at the time.

The driver of the southbound 18 wheeler was pronounced dead. The driver of the northbound Frac Tech 18 wheeler was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The accident is currently under investigation by Caddo Sheriff’s Traffic Safety Unit.

Hwy. 79 is closed from Hwy. 80 to Buncombe Road, both north and south. Traffic is being rerouted. More information will be available, including the names of those involved.


ORIGINAL REPORT: KMSS has learned two 18-wheelers have collided head-on on Highway 79 near Button Road in Greenwood.

The wreck happened around 10 a.m. 

Police have blocked the roadway. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.

Serious injuries have been reported in the crash.
