The Department of Education today announced the dates and locations for State Superintendent of Education John White’s upcoming Louisiana Believes tour. This tour will focus on discussing several major initiatives happening across the state such as the Early Childhood Network pilots, Course Choice, Advanced Placement expansion, and work to reform Louisiana’s diploma system.

“I look forward to visiting parishes around the state to see, firsthand, the great work that our educators and students are doing and to discussing the exciting work we will be doing in the upcoming school year with members of these communities,” said State Superintendent John White.

Superintendent White will visit early childhood centers participating in the Early Childhood Network pilot and speak with teachers, education leaders, and stakeholders working to unifying the previously fragmented Pre-K system. During these visits, the Superintendent will see the work that is being done to make this vision a reality and gather the input of those leading the effort locally to eventually, expand this work statewide.

This teacher-designed tour also will include several Teacher Leader town hall meetings to discuss the state’s transition to more rigorous standards and assessments with the goal of putting Louisiana students on a level playing field with students across the country.

During the tour, Superintendent White also will visit with principals, teachers, and students at several high schools around the state to learn more about the programs schools have in place to encourage an increase in students taking and passing Advanced Placement course for college credit, work to prepare students for the ACT and to expand students’ opportunities beyond a traditional classroom through Course Choice and the Khan virtual academy. Superintendent White also will visit schools participating in the Louisiana Scholarship Program and high-performing charter schools, both in rural and urban areas.

The tour also will be an opportunity to discuss strengthening Louisiana’s diplomas at several community and technical colleges around the state. This will be a follow-up visit to those the Superintendent held during the summer to gain the input of educators, business leaders, and families.
