Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Richard Duardo, Master Printer and owner of Modern Multiples, is coming to Shreveport to unveil the PRINT art exhibition, host a print-making workshop and conduct an open discussion with the public. The Opening Reception for PRINT is Friday, August 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at artspace. Admission to the reception is $10 with cool summer nibbles, a cash bar and music by Victor Olston.
The PRINT exhibition will run from August 16 through October 12, 2013. The exhibit features limited edition fine art screen pieces from contemporary street artists such as Shepard Fairey and Cryptik as well as up-and-coming artists. PRINT will also feature the Daily Make-&-Take DIY Screen Prints station, built and installed by local artist Jeormie Journell. With assistance from an artspace staff member, guests of all ages will be able to make a one-color print on brown paper for FREE! They may also purchase a t-shirt or shop rag in giftspace to print on as well!
On Saturday, August 17 at 6:00 p.m. at artspace the public is invited to attend Artist Talk with Richard Duardo. Duardo will speak about current street artists and how they make their art. Admission to Artist Talk is FREE.
Richard Duardo has been referred to as the "Warhol of the West," for his importance to Arts in Los Angeles.
He is the owner and Master Printer at Modern Multiples print studio. Since 1980, he has produced works for over 300 artists including Banksy, Shepard Fairey, David Hockney and Keith Haring. His personal work has been exhibited in Japan, Mexico, Germany and New York. His own silkscreens are colourful, psychedelic pop prints of icons such as Grace Slick, Duke Ellington and Alex from Clockwork Orange. Also on August 17 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. the public will have the chance to observe Duardo as he works with five local artists making fine art prints. The artists were selected by Durado and Brandon Oldenburg (Artistic Director of the UNSCENE! festival) and they will have the exclusive opportunity to participate in a two-day Print-Making Workshop under the direction of Duardo. The participating artists are J. Ben Moss, Jeormie Journell, Jeremy Johnson, John H. Lomax and Taffie Garsee.
Additionally, the same selected local artists will participate in a Paste-Up workshop with an established Street Artist at a later date. The Artist Team will be named as the FIRST official UNSCENE! STREET TEAM, designing and installing monthly thematic posters in Shreveport Common and around downtown Shreveport to promote the upcoming monthly festival UNSCENE!
On Saturday, September 7 and Saturday, September 21 artspace hosts Artist Expression workshops from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For $20 per person, workshop students will participate in an interactive class learning advance screen printing techniques. Workshop attendees may bring their own t-shirt or piece of material to print, or purchase t-shirts and rags from giftspace.
