Ringgold, LA (KMSS) — In a city meeting Monday, Mayor Pro Tem Bobby Guin was officially announced as the interim mayor of Ringgold. He started acting as mayor when former the mayor, Stephone Taylor, resigned in mid-March and will hold the title of Interim Mayor until the October 19 election, when a new mayor will be elected.
Some townspeople, unhappy with the prior city government, are hoping this is the change the town needs to turn around. Longtime resident, and former mayoral candidate, Eddy Higginbotham is hoping he will be part of that turnaround, already throwing his hat into the October Mayoral Election.
Higgingbotham wants what's best for Ringgold and also for its citizens, which is part of the reason he is running for mayor. At Monday's meeting, many people were calling for Higgingbotham to fill the open council seat vacated by Guin. Guin decided to choose Donna Wiggins, a funeral home owner instead, causing outbursts from some at the meeting. Higgingbotham doesn't mind not being chosen for the council seat, although he would have liked to have hit. He is choosing to look to the future, focusing instead of his mayoral campaign and what he hopes to accomplish if he's elected mayor.
