Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Authorities have arrested a Shreveport teenager in connection with a shooting that sent two people to the hospital Friday evening.
Just after 6:30 p.m., on August 23, 2013, Shreveport Police were called to the 3400 block of Darien Street relative to a shooting. Upon their arrival on scene, officers learned two victims were shot while reportedly walking in the 3400 block of Darien Street. Authorites identified the victims as Demetrius Brooks, 21, along with a 17-year-old female. Brooks, who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, was transported via ambulance to LSUHSC. The female victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was initially transported by private auto to Willis-Knighton Medical center and later by ambulance to LSUHSC.
The victims injuries were said to be non life threatening and both are expected to survive.
Shreveport Police, Violent Crimes detectives along with Crime scene personnel were called to the scene, immediately launching an investigation into the shooting. During the course of the inquiry, authorities learned Brooks and the female victim were amongst a group of individuals walking in the 3400 block of Darien Street, when their group was allegedly fired upon by a group of male suspects armed with handguns. Authorities gathered evidence during a continuing investigation, linking a 16 year old juvenile to the shooting.
The juvenile was reportedly one of the groups subjects observed standing in the roadway firing a gun into a crowd of people to include the victims. Continuing efforts by patrol officers and investigators to locate the juvenile came to fruition, as he was apprehended at a home in the 3600 block of Catherine Street on Monday August 27, 2013 just after 11:00 p.m. The juvenile was taken into custody without incident and transported to Shreveport Police headquarters. Following interviews with detectives, the juvenile was booked into the Caddo Juvenile Detention Center where he now faces two counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder.
The investigation into the shooting is still underway as authorities continue to follow leads in the matter.
