Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Shreveport Police investigators are combing through evidence Friday morning following a shooting that claimed the life of a local man.
Shortly before 1:00 a.m., Shreveport Police officers responded to an assault and battery call in the 5600 block of Kennedy Drive. Upon officers arrival at the scene, Jock Maurice McKinley, 50, was located lying in the street suffering what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the lower body. McKinley was transported by the Shreveport Fire Department to LSUHSC where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Shreveport Police Violent Crimes detectives, along with Crime Scene investigators, arrived on scene at the shooting launching an investigation. Police believe that McKinley, who resides in the area, had apparently walked to a nearby store at some point during the night and may have been on his way home when the shooting took place. At this stage of the probe, authorities are tirelessly working to identity and apprehend the suspect(s) responsible for the shooting.
