Shreveport PD murder solve rate better than national average

In 2012, Shreveport Police reported 20 murders, the same as 2011. While that number is higher than they would have liked, there is a silver lining.

Shreveport Police solve about 75% of their murders, much higher than the national average of 62.5%.

They attribute that solve rate to many factors, but the main one is the relationship police have with the community. They work hard to be trusted in the community, so that people will feel comfortable turning to them with different tips. Often, it is those tips that lead to an arrest.

While their solve rate is higher than the average, it is not high enough. Shreveport Police would like to be able to say every single one of their murders is solved. There is no statute of limitations for murder, so from every cold case to brand new cases, SPD promises never to give up, knowing that for families, every day can seem like the day they lost their loved one.
