UPDATE (6-11-2013, 10:23 a.m.):
The Shreveport Police Department has released the name of the officer involved in an alleged aggravated assault by a Shreveport man Sunday night.

On June 9, 2013, just after 9:00 p.m., Probationary Officer Joshua Cordell, who was hired by the department in July 2012, was attempting to conduct a traffic stop near the intersection of Dowdell Street at West 77th Street after observing the driver commit a traffic violation. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, 28 year old Labroderick Alexander, reportedly exited the vehicle armed with an assault style weapon and pointed it at officer Cordell while fleeing on foot. Cordell, in response, fired at Alexander using his service weapon. While uncertain, there has been no evidence to suggest that Alexander was struck during the ordeal.

At current, detectives have pieced together evidence linking Alexander to the crime and have since procured a warrant for his arrest charging him with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. Alexander, who is still outstanding, is to be considered armed and dangerous. Persons with information regarding the whereabouts of Labroderick Alexander are urged to contact Caddo Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373 or on their website at www.lockemup.org
