Shreveport woman hospitalized after being shot multiple times

Update: Neighbors who did not want to go on camera, said they were surpised to hear of this. They also said they didn't know the woman who was shot, and that they were asleep when the shooting occurred.


A woman is recovering after she was shot early this morning in Shreveport's Ingleside community.

On Thursday,  at  2:20 a.m., authorities were called to a local hospital after receiving reports that a woman had arrived in the emergency room suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her lower body. The victim, Shannon Burkhalter, 42, of Shreveport, was treated at the hospital after she was shot in the legs.

Investigators determined Burkhalter was walking on Fairy Street between Randolph and Bibb Streets when an undescribed vehicle pulled up behind her and began shooting. It was during this time the woman fled to a nearby house where she took refuge. The vehicle fled in an unknown direction.

Authorities are working at this hour to identify and apprehend the person or persons responsible for this crime.
