Staying safe on Halloween

There are about 180 sexual offenders currently on probation or parole in Caddo and Bossier Parishes, but well over a thousand on the sex offenders registry.

Offenders aren't allowed to take part in Halloween activities, including trick or treating. About a month ago, the Department of Probation and Parole began sending out letters, reminding offenders what they should and shouldn't be doing on Halloween night.

In case the letter wasn't enough, law enforcement will also be doing random checks at the houses of sex offenders who have previously targeted juveniles. They could be visited several times during the evening.

Despite these precautions, the Department of Probation and Parole is asking parents to be cautious as well, reminding them to know the area and even the houses they will be visiting. Not only that, they advise parents go out trick or treating with younger children.

States have a searchable sex offender registry that lists addresses, both work and home for sex offenders. For Louisiana, click here; Texas, here; and Arkansas here.
