Staying safe on icy roads

Tuesday, January 15, 2013 - 4:18pm

During icy weather and roads Tuesday, law enforcement advised people to stay off the roads if they didn't have to be on them, but many people had no choice but to get on the dangerous roads.

While driving teachers may enjoy the roads as a way to teach drivers about icy conditions, they aren't the best for the average, or even established driver.

There are a few things that can be done to make icy roads a bit safer; don't break hard. This could cause skidding. Driving instructors say the two most important things are to drive slower, and leave more space when driving.

And of course, follow all rules and signs, especially road closures, as roads are closed for the public's safety.
