A Shreveport man has been arrested and charged with several burglaries over the past several months in south Shreveport.

On Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Sand Beach Boulevard on reports of a suspicious person lurking in the area. After authorities made it to the scene, they spotted a man running with a women's handbag.

Following a short foot chase, officers were able to catch and identify the man as Pierce McCray, 20, of Shreveport. Officers, while detaining McCray, contacted Shreveport detectives and learned he was a suspect in other cases in the immediate area.

McCray was taken to police headquarters where it was discovered McCray was allegedly responsible for over half a dozen residential burglaries in the Haven subdivision along with other south Shreveport addresses. Stolen property from some of McCray's heists were recovered inside his home.

The list of burglaries is expected to grow in this ongoing investigation.

McCray was booked into the Shreveport City Jail and charged with three counts of burglary, one count of aggravated burglary, possession of burglary tools, resisting an officer and illegal possession of stolen things.
