Two arrested for going on shopping spree with counterfeit checks

Investigators with Bossier Financial Crimes Task Force arrested a Haughton man and Shreveport woman for spending thousands of dollars with counterfeit checks to purchase several items at several retail locations.

Dana Christopher, 36 and Kami Cosby, 25 were booked into jail following a two-month investigation by the Task Force, a joint effort between the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office and Bossier City Police Department.

During the investigation, detectives were sure that Christopher and Cosby would illegally obtain the checking account information from mulitple victims, produce counterfeit checks, and then purchase mostly high dollar items at different stores.

Investigators contacted both Christopher and Cosby during a traffic stop in Haughton and arrested them both on the warrant charges of racketeering and three counts of identity theft.

Christopher was also charged with possession of methamphetamines, possession of drug paraphernelia, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor. At the time of the traffic stop, authorites found a glass pipe with meth resideu and a canister containing meth, a four year old child was also in the car.

During a search of Christopher's home, authorities found weight scales with meth residue in one of the bedrooms.

Investigators also impounded a vehicle, laptop computer, and financial documents.

The four year old child is now with another family member.

Today's arrest closes seven cases of identity theft, but investiagators remind residents that if they feel they have been the victim of identity theft to contact Bossier Sheriff's Office at 965-2203 or the Bossier City Police Department at 741-8611.
