Shreveport, La (KMSS) — Authorities have issued a warrant for the man who allegedly stole a woman's car Thursday with her child inside.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, at 11:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of a local day care center on the west side of town.
A caller told authorities a car with a child in the back seat had been taken in the 6700 block of Melara Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered the mother was dropping off one of her children inside the building, when a man jumped into the driver's seat and sped away.
While other officers were en route, they learned another caller reported seeing a similar vehicle stopped on the 3000 block of Amherst Street. The tipster also stated a small child was standing outside the car crying.
Authorities raced to the second scene and found the child unharmed. The suspect was last seen running from the area between houses.
Police believe the bandit, later identified as Zerquario D. Reddix, 18, of Shreveport, may have been bitten by a dog as he ran through several backyards before finally making it to a vehicle left parked near Quilen Boulevard and Melara.
The fugitive is described as a light skinned black male, standing 6'-6'2", slender build, wearing a black and red baseball cap and tan pants.
No victims were hurt during the incident, but the woman's vehicle did receive some damage when the car slammed into a utility pole.
Reddix bond is set at $300,000. Authorities issued a warrant on Friday.
