They call it the "Sportman's Paradise" for a reason. Spending on outdoor recreation is heating up in the Ark-La-Tex. According to a study by a national trade group, spending on outdoor equipment from grills to fishing gear has grown by 5 percent each year since 2005. Don Tubbs of Tubbs Hardware & Rentals in Bossier City, says grills are flying off the shelves. "The temperatures have been kinder to us, so they're spending more time outside, and our grill sales, are big green egg sales, have been phenomenal," said Tubbs.
Overall, the outdoor industry employs three times as many people as the oil and gas industry, according to the study. The total revenue dollars stack up nicely too, at more than $646 billion.
