SHREVEPORT, La. (KMSS) — Protesters were out today at a local Wal-mart to protest the way the company allegedly handles confining pigs in gestation crates.
Members of the national animal rights group, Mercy for Animals and local animal activists demonstrated at the Wal-mart on airline drive in Bossier City this morning.
Wal-mart is under fire for alleged cruelty to animals following an undercover investigation at one of the retailers main pork suppliers by the organization.
“At two different Wal-mart pork suppliers, we documented pregnant pigs confined in metal crates, the crates were so small the animals could not even turn around.” said Phil Letten, who is launching a national campaign for the cause.
Wal-mart officials could not be reached for comment.
