Shreveport, La — Last night, Greg Mills, 51, was the victim in Shreveport’s first fire fatality of the year. Shreveport fire crews were called to the 600 block of West 83rd Street in the Cedar Grove community at 10:13 p.m with reports that someone was trapped in the home. Fire crews arrived on-scene four minutes after the call and found the house totally engulfed in flames. There was heavy smoke and thick flames coming from the windows and doors on three sides of the home. By 10:30 p.m. the fire was under control. SFD crews were called back to 603 W. 83rd street at 4:43 a.m. because the fire apparently re-ignited.
Fire investigators, still on the scene this morning, have confirmed the fire originated in the living room and that Mr. Mills was found in one of the bedrooms, but the exact cause is still unknown. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office will release their findings once a complete investigation has been conducted.
