Manziel suspended first half of Rice game

MGN-Online/Arlington National Cemetary
Wednesday, August 28, 2013 - 3:38pm

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel will receive a half-game suspension to be served in Saturday’s season opener against Rice.

The NCAA was looking into allegations of whether or not Manziel received compensation for signing around 4,400 autographs for various brokers at different locations around the time Alabama faced Notre Dame in the BCS National Championship Game in Miami.

Although a number of dealers came out saying they have proof the Tyler native was paid for his private autograph sessions, the NCAA claimed they had no substantial evidence linking Manziel to the payments.

This brings up the question, if Manziel is innocent, why even suspend him?

The NCAA is concerned with Manziel's "lapse of judgment" when he agreed to sign thousands of autographs for brokers and he should have known, with the large amount of signed memorabilia, they would be put up for sale. The NCAA accepts the punishment that was implemented and Texas A&M will have their starting quarterback.
